Simon Matson

Simon is Executive Vice President of Gallagher’s Global Brokerage division with overall responsibility for Gallagher’s insurance broking and underwriting operations across Europe, Middle East and India and the company’s global reinsurance business, Gallagher Re.

Prior to his current role, Simon was CEO of Gallagher’s 7,500-strong broking and underwriting division in Europe, Middle East and Asia, a role he had held since January 2021, having been appointed as CEO of Gallagher’s UK broking and underwriting business in 2018.

During his time at Gallagher, Simon has also held the role of CEO of Gallagher’s London Specialty broking division, which provides complex, specialist risk management and insurance solutions tailored to the specific needs of industries that include Energy, Construction, Property & Casualty, Aviation, Marine & Cargo, and Financial Services, as well as CEO of the independent wholesale insurance broker, Alesco.

Simon started his insurance career in 1989 within the oil and gas division of a global broker. After many years of co-coordinating and marketing large upstream accounts, he left his role as Head of Upstream Energy broking to set-up Alesco in 2008, which became part of the Gallagher group of businesses in 2014.
